Since 2018, AEON Credit has actively participated in annual mangrove tree planting initiatives, with exceptions in 2020 and 2021 due to MCO restrictions. To-date, AEON Credit volunteers have been involved in replanting mangroves in Sabah at KK Wetlands and Lema’as Forest Reserve.
On 2nd March 2024, AEON Credit collaborated with the Wetland School of Setiu and the University Malaysia of Terengganu (Institute of Oceanography and Environment) to plant 1,000 mangrove saplings at Setiu Wetland, Terengganu. Volunteers included local community members, Government Agencies and university students from University Malaysia of Terengganu and University College Bestari.
This initiative is part of AEON Credit’s commitment to preserving the Malaysian coastline and extends the on-going efforts of coastal clean-up projects since 2018. The goal is not only to preserve and conserve coastline biodiversity but also to recognize the vital role of mangroves in preventing wave erosion and facilitating marine life breeding. Mangrove trees are also well-known for its capability of absorbing higher carbon dioxide compared to forest tree.
The event was also attended by Mr. Faizul Bin Hamzah (HQ-SRMD) , Chief Risk Officer; Ms. Hasmamaizan Binti Abd Rahman (Eastern-KTN-EPG) , Eastern Regional Office Regional Manager; Ms Nur Khairee Hadzuaa Binti Abdullah (Eastern-KTG-CSU), ERO Area Manager; Dr Behara Satyanarayana, Associate Professor of Institute of Oceanography and Environment and Mr. Muhammad Allim Jamalludin, Wetland School of Setiu Project Coordinator.
