Since 2018, AEON Credit Service (M) Berhad has been dedicated to environmental sustainability through our Coastal Clean-up Programme. In collaboration with local communities, government agencies, and university students, we’ve removed a total of 17 tonnes of waste—primarily plastic—from Malaysia’s coastlines.
This year, in partnership with International Climate Change Action 2024 (ICCA@2024), we kicked off the 2024 Coastal Clean-up at Pulau Tioman, Pahang. Led by our Eastern Regional Office and with over 300 volunteers from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA), local schools, government agencies, and Reef Check Malaysia, we cleared plastic waste along a 2.8km stretch of coastline!
A key objective of this initiative is to raise public awareness about the environmental threat posed by microplastics, an issue currently being studied by the Science Faculty of UPM. Research has shown that plastic waste is now being detected in marine life, particularly in seafood consumed by humans, highlighting the urgent need to address sea pollution.
In line with our ongoing commitment to environmental responsibility, we’re expanding our Coastal Clean-up Programme to Pantai Bersih (Penang), Pantai Kampung Santubong (Sarawak), and Tanjung Balau (Johor) this October. Our main goal is to remove 4.5 tonnes of waste from 7km of coastline and protect our oceans for future generations!
