Kuala Lumpur, 9 December, 2016 – AEON Credit Service (M) Berhad (“AEON Credit”) today celebrated its 20th anniversary as one of Malaysia’s leading non-bank financial service providers. AEON Credit, a subsidiary of AEON Financial Service Co., Ltd., Japan, is listed on the Main Market of Bursa Malaysia Securities Berhad.
To celebrate this milestone, AEON Credit held an appreciation dinner today at DoubleTree by Hilton, Kuala Lumpur. The event was officiated by Deputy Finance Minister, Y.B. Dato’ Lee Chee Leong.
In his welcoming address, YBhg. Dato’ Abdullah Yusof, Chairman of AEON Credit traced the history of AEON Credit since launching of the easy payment scheme for consumer durables in 1996 to current operations and business expansion covering vehicle financing, personal financing, credit card and E-money products. AEON Credit now has total assets exceeding RM6 billion in 2016, with more than 3,300
employees nationwide and a network of 12,000 participating merchant outlets nationwide.
At the dinner, YBhg. Dato’ Abdullah Yusof announced the setting up of the AEON Credit Education Sponsorship Programme, targeted at undergraduate students in 2017. This sponsorship is one of the Corporate Social Responsibility activities undertaken by the Company in conjunction with its 20th Anniversary, aimed towards supporting local communities.
His Excellency Dr. Makio Miyagawa, Ambassador of Japan to Malaysia in his speech said “As AEON brand is a well established household name in Japan, I am filled with pride to note the accomplishment of AEON in Malaysia. I am also happy to note that AEON Credit has over these 20 years proven to be a positive influence in the lives of everyday Malaysians”.
Mr Kenji Fujita, Managing Director of AEON Credit Service in his speech announced the introduction of the Company’s latest E- Money product; a prepaid card with contactless function which would be available in the market in 2017. He further commented “Certainly AEON Credit has to invest in financial innovation and explore the formation of strategic alliances to capitalise on emerging trends, and to adopt technological advancement in our business model”.
In the official launching speech, Y.B. Dato’ Lee Chee Leong, Deputy Finance Minister commented “Non-banking financial service providers such as AEON Credit have a complementary role to banks in providing financial services to specific market segments in Malaysia. AEON Credit has contributed significantly to meet consumer needs in Malaysia over the last two decades, based on philosophy of customer focus”.
